How can tourist guides design meaningful experiences for visitors of different abilities within large cultural attractions?
In this applied learning session at National Gallery Singapore, participants will explore how accessibility is integrated into one of Singapore’s leading museums. The session begins with an overview of the Gallery’s accessibility services and a walkthrough of key infrastructure that supports visitors with diverse needs.
Participants will then experience inclusive interpretation techniques through selected works from the HOLD Collection, learning how guides can present artworks using clear and structured narratives that are accessible to visitors with different learning styles and abilities.
The session also includes a visit to the Gallery’s Calm Room, a dedicated sensory-friendly space designed to support visitors who may require a quiet environment.
Through this practical, hands-on experience, guides will gain insights into how attractions can be experienced more inclusively and how thoughtful interpretation can make cultural spaces welcoming for all visitors.
