Go Green SG 2026 Climate Adaptation Experience in Jurong
What does a hospital, a sheltered pedestrian network, a cup of kopi, and used coffee grounds have in common?
In Singapore, they represent climate adaptation in action — how our city protects residents from rising heat, strengthens food resilience, conserves water, and builds long-term sustainability.
Grounds for Change is a 2.5-hour immersive sustainability experience in Jurong, designed in support of Go Green Singapore 2026 and a part of Clean & Green Singapore Experiences. This climate-focused tour explores how Singapore integrates heat adaptation, green healthcare infrastructure, circular economy practices, food resilience, and biodiversity protection into everyday spaces.
Participants do not just learn about sustainability — they experience how Singapore is preparing for climate disruption and ecological stress.

COMPONENTS
- 🌡️ Heat Adaptation & Climate-Resilient Urban Design - J-Walk Network, Jurong – Cooling the City Through Smart Design
- The experience begins along Jurong’s J-Walk Network, a sheltered, elevated pedestrian corridor connecting homes, malls, MRT stations, workplaces, and transport nodes.
- As global temperatures rise, heat adaptation in Singapore becomes a national priority. J-Walk demonstrates how climate-responsive infrastructure can:
- Protect residents from rising heat and heavy rainfall
- Reduce car dependency and lower carbon emissions
- Improve liveability in high-density urban environments
- Enhance pedestrian connectivity in a warming climate
- This segment highlights how Singapore designs for urban climate resilience and sustainable mobility.
- 🏥 Green Healthcare & Climate-Ready Infrastructure - Ng Teng Fong General Hospital
- The tour continues with a walkthrough of Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, Singapore’s first eco-smart public hospital and a model for climate-resilient healthcare infrastructure.
- Healthcare facilities must remain operational during extreme heat events and climate stress. Participants discover how the hospital integrates:
- Natural ventilation and passive cooling systems (heat adaptation)
- Biophilic design to improve patient recovery and mental wellness
- Smart energy monitoring to reduce carbon footprint
- Water-efficient systems supporting water resilience
- This segment connects public health, climate adaptation, and sustainable infrastructure in Singapore.
- ☕ Circular Economy & Food Resilience - From Kopi to Compost – Brown Waste Recovery in Singapore
- At a local coffee chain, used coffee grounds are collected during the programme, introducing the concept of brown waste recovery and circular economy in Singapore.
- Participants learn how organic waste can:
- Reduce landfill methane emissions
- Support Singapore’s food resilience strategy
- Improve soil health for urban farming
- Reduce reliance on imported fertilisers
- This practical demonstration aligns with Singapore’s national goals for food security, waste reduction, and sustainable resource management.
- This sets the stage for a hands-on composting session at an exclusive agriculture research facility in Toh Guan, founded by pioneering scientist Professor Bai Shi Yin. Her enzyme-based composting breakthroughs accelerate decomposition, enabling nutrient-rich soil production for urban agriculture.
- 🌾 Composting Innovation & Urban Agriculture - Climate Adaptation Through Soil Regeneration
-
- The journey culminates in a hands-on composting session at an agriculture research facility in Toh Guan, founded by Professor Bai Shi Yin, a pioneering scientist in enzyme-based composting.
- Her breakthrough composting techniques accelerate organic decomposition, enabling nutrient-rich soil production for urban farming and community gardens in Singapore.
- Participants explore:
- Food resilience through local growing
- Biodiversity enhancement via soil regeneration
- Water resilience through improved soil moisture retention
- Climate mitigation through waste-to-resource systems
- Participants may bring compost home for personal food-growing initiatives or donate it to a community garden — turning sustainability knowledge into climate action.
