Inclusive Tourism Training Course Overview

This 2-day Inclusive Tourism Training program equips Singapore Tourist Guides and frontline tourism staff with the essential knowledge and skills to provide inclusive, respectful, and enjoyable experiences for all visitors, including those with disabilities. Through interactive classroom sessions, experiential learning, and site inspections, participants will deepen their understanding of disabilities, master inclusive communication, and gain practical tools to adapt tours to meet diverse needs. By the end of the course, guides will be able to enhance service quality, expand client inclusivity, and contribute meaningfully to Singapore’s accessible tourism ecosystem.

Course Objectives

1. Gain foundational knowledge of disability awareness and inclusive tourism principles.
2. Develop practical skills in communicating effectively and providing inclusive service to travellers with disabilities in Singapore.
3. Understand the diverse needs of travellers with disabilities and how to adapt tour experiences accordingly.
4. Experience first-hand the challenges and opportunities of accessible travel in Singapore through site inspections across different tourism service providers.

Course Outline

Module 1: Introduction to Disability & Inclusion

Learn about disability types, the social model of disability, and inclusive tourism principles

  • Defining accessible and Inclusive Tourism
  • Defining disability & the social model
  • Common disability types (physical, sensory, intellectual, developmental)
  • Disability in SG

Module 2: Site Visit – Enabling Village

Take part in a guided tour led by a person with a disability, and try accessibility features hands-on.

  • Universal Design observation
  • Interaction with persons with disabilities
  • Hands-on in handling wheelchair users, visually impaired individuals

Activity: Wheelchair Loading and Unloading

  • Practice basic wheelchair handling
  • Use of accessible transport

Module 3: Site Inspections – Learning from Best Practices

Visit tourism sites with inclusive features
